Introducing Methven Fly Fishing Guides; Al Kircher and Steve Gerard

Al Kircher;

Al Kircher - Methven Fishing GuideAl is a long time Canterbury Guide, in fact when I first start guiding I was assisting Al.

Al knows this area better than just about anyone, when he's not fishing he's hunting, and when he's not doing either of those things he's somewhere up in the back country working on one of the stations.

Al is also a sight fishing specialist, and with his years of experience you are in good hands. Plus Al is a good company so I can warmly recommend him to you.

Also if you're interested in hunting then Al can help you with Red Stags, Thar, Chamois and Fallow Buck in the region plus waterfowl

Al is a member of the Fishing Guides Association

Steve Gerard;

(For the time being I've hung up my boots - retired from guiding - too busy in my Shop so please direct all queries to Al for fishing in this area - Steve)

Steve GerardI'm a fifth generation New Zealander. I was lucky enough to be raised in a fishing family and lived right on the banks of the Rakaia River here in the central South Island so have literally been fishing all my life. Sight fishing is the favoured style of fly fishing in the South Island where crystal clear waters makes spotting the individual fish possible.

Sight fishing is my passion!!

I now live a short distance away with my wife and young daughters in Methven, a busy winter ski town.

I've been a keen fisherman for over 30 years so I know our local region well. The 2007-08 fishing season will be my 11th season as a professional guide so I can now claim a certain amount of experience in that department.

I specialise in sight fishing for the brown and rainbow trout that inhabit the rivers, streams, and lakes of our local area. And also in up river salmon fishing which is an added bonus when fishing in this area.

There are few greater pleasures than to stalk our magnificent trout amongst the peace, solitude and majestic scenery of the Southern Alps. New Zealand is indeed a paradise for both fly fishermen and fly fishing guides alike.

I'm a member of the New Zealand Professional Fishing Guides Association

and are committed to providing my clients with a professional, friendly and quality

fishing and out door experience.

Guide and client in action
