Fly Fishing Christchurch.
The wider Canterbury
area offers some very good fly fishing for those that know where to find it.
The region is dominated by the larger glacial rivers that flow out of the
Alps and across the plains. The lower reaches of these rivers support a
healthy number of sea run browns which can be very large. But it's the upper
reaches that offer the most interest to the fly fisherman where the water is
smaller and easier to cope with in scenic surrounds. Browns and Rainbows can
be found and at times some very large trout are caught.
Every few years a phenomenon takes place where the beech trees produce
copious amounts of seed which leads to mouse plagues. Of course a mouse is
no match for a large trout and during these periods Canterbury produces some
very large trout....
Let Chappie share with you his extensive knowledge of the wider Canterbury

Stillwater's abound, there are numerous lakes throughout the high country
all of which hold trout. Across the plains there are also a number of
smaller rain fed rivers that offer options closer to Christchurch. Fish
sizes vary considerably, three pounds and up to very large. Ask Chappie to
tell you about the big rainbow pictured.
Additionally
Canterbury is also the place to come to catch a salmon in NZ, unfortunately
recent seasons have been poor, but it can bounce but quickly so keep them in
mind during February and March.
