Fly fishing style

Generally the fly fishing style is the classical South Island style of clear water sight fishing, where most trout are first sighted, then stalked, before being tempted with a dry fly or nymph. This is both an exciting and rewarding fishing style and suits parties of 1 or 2 persons per fishing guide.

A chunky rainbow from the canterbury High CountryThere are many locations within range of a day trip from Methven and you can expect to encounter a good number of trout each day, how many you will catch will depend upon your skill!

My guide service includes the use of a jet boat and 4x4, so I can take you into some fairly remote and scenic fly fishing locations that you may otherwise not find. These places are up in the Canterbury high country and are where the better trout fishing is to be found.

I cater for all levels of ability and will help you as much as possible with techniques and local fishing styles. So don’t worry if you consider yourself a novice. You can still enjoy a positive and learning fishing experience.

NB The fishing style dictates we can walk reasonable distances so comfortable footwear (wading boots) is important for trout fishing.
